Rodrigo Garro: a True Masterpiece
When a player debuts for a new team, it normally takes some time for him to get used to his teammates. But Rodrigo Garro has proven how special he is. Signed by Corinthians from the small Argentinian club Talleres, the young midfielder has quickly integrated into the team.
The statistics speak for themselves and highlight Garro’s important role within the squad. Before his arrival, Corinthians had lost five out of six games, and had only won once. Additionally, they had only scored twice — scoring opportunities were rare.
Conversely, with the Argentinian player, the most popular club in São Paulo won two out of four matches and scored five times. According to the sports data platform Sofascore, since his debut, Garro leads the team in both decisive passes (11) and fouls suffered (13).
It can be said that he is particularly adept at retrieving the ball from the defense and creating chances for the strikers.
Furthermore, beyond just the numbers, the playmaker has positively influenced his teammates’ attitudes. They now fight for every single ball, apply high pressure on the rival’s defense, and, most importantly, they never give up, which aligns with the club’s philosophy.
Yesterday, against their main rival Palmeiras, was one of the matches that supporters will never forget. While Corinthians has been struggling to return to winning ways, it is worth noting that Palmeiras has been consistently successful, winning cups and trophies for years. As a result, Palmeiras is better organized both on and off the field.
That being said, Corinthians was losing 2–0 until the 87th minute, when the young striker Yuri Alberto narrowed the deficit. A few minutes later, the legendary goalkeeper Cassio received a red card for a foul on a through ball from Palmeiras’ defense, and Alberto was forced off due to injury.
In a long-range free-kick, Corinthians had their only chance to equalize. The referee had already extended the game twice, and time was running out for the team.
Then Garro took the ball, glanced at the goalkeeper, and kicked it with such class that had been missing at Corinthians for a long time, scoring the 2–2 equalizer and reigniting the team’s hopes of qualifying for the next stage of the Paulistão, and giving some confidence to the newcomer Portuguese coach, Antonio Oliveira.
Obviously, the player may not be aware of it, but he has just etched his name in the history of one of Brazil’s main classics.
Welcome to the passionate, crazy, yet incredibly loyal fans, Rodrigo Garro.
