Ednaldo Rodrigues Reelected at the Brazilian Football Confederation
In an election without any other rivals, after the former striker Ronaldo Nazário (R9) gave up on his candidacy, Ednaldo Rodrigues was reelected as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). His four-year term will start in 2026, when Brazil will try to win its sixth World Cup, and end in 2030.
As reported by GE, Mr. Rodrigues was elected in August 2021 in a temporary term after the former president Rogério Caboclo was removed from office due to moral and sexual harassment allegations. He received votes from all 27 state federations and all 40 clubs from Series A and B, totaling 141 points.
“Today, we celebrate not just the confirmation of our work through reelection, but the triumph of democracy, dialogue, freedom, and the autonomy of sports organizations. Over the past years, we have faced many challenges. We suffered all kinds of prejudice and persecution. They even tried a coup. We resisted and we won!” said Mr. Rodrigues.
Ednaldo Rodrigues Campaign
Running under the platform ‘For a More Inclusive Football Without Discrimination of Any Nature’, Ednaldo Rodrigues secured election at the CBF headquarters in Rio. His ticket also elected eight vice presidents: Ricardo Nonato Macedo de Lima, Reinaldo Rocha Carneiro Bastos, Gustavo Oliveira Vieira, Gustavo Dias Henrique, Ednailson Leite Rozenha, Antônio Roberto Góes da Silva, Leomar de Melo Quintanilha, and Rubens Renato Angelotti.

After selling his SAF (Football Publicly Traded Company) of the Brazilian team Cruzeiro, and still running the Spanish Valladolid club, Mr. Nazário announced in December that he would run for CBF presidency. He withdrew his candidacy last week due to a lack of support from the federations, which have a more substantial influence in the election than the clubs.
While Mr. Rodrigues’ temporary term was marked by fewer scandals than his predecessors, the most common criticism was about his time spent pursuing Carlos Ancelotti as the Brazilian national team coach. Mr. Rodrigues publicly stated that Mr. Ancelotti would be hired – something that never happened as he won the Champions League again.
With just over a year until the United States-Canada-Mexico World Cup, the Brazilian team looks lost on the field, with its manager Mr. Dorival Júnior facing a lack of confidence from the press and fans.
